Fr. Michael writes: There is a real sense of urgency in all our Scripture readings today. The prophet Jonah tells the people of Nineveh they only have a very short time to mend their ways – they listen to him and disaster is averted. St. Paul tells the Corinthians “Our time is growing very short.” The first four disciples leave off from their everyday chores “at once” when they hear the call to follow Christ. Questions for us, therefore, are:- “How urgently do we treat our faith?” Do we make a real and immediate effort to change our lives if need be, or can that be put off until another day? It is so easy to be people with the excuse we meant to do something about it, but never actually got around to it. Now, is the moment Jesus expects a response to His call: “The kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe in the Good News.3rd Sunday of the Year
