Fr. Michael writes: In today’s Gospel we celebrate the mystery of Christ’s transfiguration on Mount Tabor. It was a wonderful experience for the three disciples who witnessed it, so much so that Peter cried out:- “Lord it is wonderful for us to be here”. Yet that could not be so. Jesus is increasingly aware that to carry out his Father’s mission will bring him face to face with a violent death. St. Matthew shows us that Jesus is not just the one who is to suffer but that he is the beloved Son of God. In the transfiguration the name of Jesus is called in love: he is named and owned by the Father, and we are all directed to listen to him. It is the same love of God for us that should help us in our life’s journey. It enables us to keep on striving until we can rest at last in the love that knows our name best.2nd Sunday of Lent
